CALL FOR PAPERS: 27TH ANNUAL CENTRAL EUROPEAN POLITICAL SCIENCE ASSOCIATION'S CONFERENCE, DUBROVNIK, CROATIA, 28-29 SEPTEMBER 2023

We are glad to be able to invite you to propose panels and papers for the 27th Annual Central European Political Science Association (CEPSA) conference to be held in Dubrovnik (Croatia) on 28th and 29th of September. The topic of this year's conference is "War and Democracy: Central European Democracies Under Pressure".  Deadline for proposal is 1st of May 2023. All relevant information is published here.

NEW CEPSA MULTI-AUTHOR BOOK ON POPULISM IN CEE (PUBLISHER EDWARD ELGAR)

Cognisant of the ongoing pandemic and political turmoil across Europe, this timely multi-author book, published by Edward Elgar publishing house examines the growing influence of populist movements in Central and Eastern Europe. Editors Simona Kukovič (Slovenia) and Petr Just (Czech Republic) bring together contributions from experts working in the fields of political science and sociology to study the roots and ramifications of populism in this historically turbulent region. ​CEPSA AT APSA 2022

Central European Political Science Association (CEPSA) organised panel at 118th American Political Science Association’s Annual Meeting & Exhibition that was held in Montreal, Canada, on 15th of September 2022. The topic of the panel was "Political Potential and Appeal of Anti-Covid-19 and Conspiracy Movements” and included five presentations from five CEPSA members countries, Slovakia (Peter Csanyi), Hungary (Boglárka Koller), Slovenia (Miro Haček and Simona Kukovič), Poland (Agnieszka Turska-Kawa) and Czech Republic (Petr Just).

26TH ANNUAL CENTRAL EUROPEAN POLITICAL SCIENCE ASSOCIATION'S CONFERENCE

Central European Political Science Association (CEPSA) in partnership with Slovenian Political Science Association and Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana, successfully organised 26th annual Central European Political Science Association conference titled “Democracy after coronavirus: facing new political reality”. Conference was held on 2nd and 3rd of June 2022 at the Congress Centre Bled, Slovenia, and attended by more than 140 scientists and academics from 15 countries, not only from Europe, but also from the world, who could listen to 120 paper presentations in twenty-one panels. In addition to main theme pandemic-related issues, panels have focused on the decline of democratic processes in the region, the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian war on security, stability and the region's economic situation, and for the first time ever, eighteen PhD students had the chance to present their work in special panels dedicated to them. As part of the opening speech, acting CEPSA President, prof. Miro Haček thanked prof. Steven R. Smith (Georgetown University, APSA executive director) for coming to Slovenia and delivering keynote address and all CEPSA members for coming to Slovenia and participating at the event. During the conference, CEPSA Executive Committee met and decided on several important issue, among them also on next CEPSA annual meetings (next CEPSA annual conference will be held in Dubrovnik, Croatia, on 28-29 September 2023), the international activity of CEPSA in next period and first CEPSA multi-author book in cooperation with Edward Elgar publishing house.

25TH ANNUAL CENTRAL EUROPEAN POLITICAL SCIENCE
ASSOCIATION’S CONFERENCE


​Institute of Political Science at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn, Poland together with Central European Political Science Association (CEPSA), successfully organized 25th annual Central European Political Science Association conference titled “Challenges to Democracy: Political Processes in Central and Eastern Europe”. Conference was held on 18th and 19th of November 2021 at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn and attended by more than 120 scientists and academics from 21 countries, not only from Europe, but also from the world, who could listen to over one hundred papers, presented at the twenty-five panels. Recent democracy trends in the Central and Eastern European countries are quite worrying and demand serious academic debate on the issue of  democratic decline of the entire region just thirty years after democratic changes of 1990s. As part of the opening speech, acting CEPSA President, prof. Miro Haček thanked the Institute of Political Science at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn for the preparation of such an important conference, especially in these troubling times. During the conference, CEPSA Council met and decided on several important issue, among them also on new CEPSA leadership team and new executive committee, the international activity of CEPSA in next period and on next two CEPSA annual conference, due in Slovenia in 2022 and Croatia in 2023 (see minutes below). Institute of Political Science at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn proved that is not important how many obstacles there are, what is important is the ability to successfully promote and have the boldness to tackle the issues presented by the pandemic and organise the successful conference even in these challenging times.

CEPSA AT APSA 2021

​Central European Political Science Association (CEPSA) organised combination of in-person and virtual panel at 117th American Political Science Association’s Annual Meeting & Exhibition that was held in Seattle, WA on 1st of October 2021. The topic of the panel was "Democracy under attack? Challenges facing the Central and Eastern Europe” and included four presentations from four CEPSA members countries, Hungary (Boglárka Koller), Slovenia (Miro Haček and Simona Kukovič), Poland (Agnieszka Turska-Kawa) and Czech Republic (Petr Just).

CEPSA AT 26TH IPSA WORLD CONGRESS

During 26th World Congress of Political Science, that was held virtually from 10 to 15 July 2021, Central and Eastern Political Science Association (CEPSA) organized two panels with total of ten presentations, namely “National Political Parties in Central Europe” held as one of the General Sessions, and “Populism in Central and Eastern Europe: The Rise of Populist Political Parties and Leaders”, that was held under the umbrella of RC47. All presented papers will be published in multi-author book, that will be published by Edvard Elgar publishing house in early 2022.

FIRST VIRTUAL CEPSA ROUND TABLE

Central European Political Science Association (CEPSA) organized first virtual Zoom conference on the impacts of Covid19 pandemics on the politics of Central and Eastern European region, with participants from most CEPSA member countries. Virtual Round Table was held on 15 October 2020 from 12 noon to 2pm. CEPSA will organize additional virtual round tables in near future.

24TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF CENTRAL EUROPEAN POLITICAL SCIENCE ASSOCATION (CEPSA)

The Department of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Pécs, Hungary, successfully organized 24th annual Central European Political Science Association (CEPSA) conference titled “CEE – A Region In-Between”. Conference was held on 26 and 27 September 2019 at the University of Pécs and attended by more than 150 scientists and academics from more than 15 countries, not only from Europe, but also from the world, who could listen to 107 papers, presented at the twenty panels. Recent trends in the Central and Eastern European countries further proved the unique position and mindset of the region – in-between two different worlds and cultures, the East and the West. What a few might call the return of history, the countries once again experience uncertainty, political extremity and the influence of external powers. As part of the opening speech, acting CEPSA President, prof. dr. Miro Haček thanked The Department of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Pécs for the preparation of such an important conference, whose organization is de facto a recognition of the workplace as important for the discipline of political science. During the conference, CEPSA executive board met and decided on several important issue, among them also on the international activity of CEPSA in next period (CEPSA will organize panels both at IPSA World Congress in Lisbon and American Political Science Annual Conference in San Francisco) and on next two CEPSA annual conference, due in Olsztyn in 2020 and Ljubljana in 2021. The Department of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Pécs proved that the size is not important, but the ability to successfully promote and become aware of both the public and the professional community, through the organization of such important events.

23RD ANNUAL CONFERENCE 
OF CENTRAL EUROPEAN POLITICAL SCIENCE ASSOCATION (CEPSA)

 
The Faculty of Political Science and International Relations of Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica last month was among the successful institutions of several countries, where an international scientific conference called CEPSA (Central European Political Science Association) was held on 13 and 14 September, which was organized with the financial support of Banská Bystrica. It was already its 23rd year, where more than 130 scientists and academics from more than 15 countries, not only of Europe, but also the world, participated. During this two-day conference rich program, participants focused their contributions in many panels at occasion of the centenary of the First World War and the world after its end. As part of the opening speech, still, at that time, still acting CEPSA President, Mr. Cabada, The Faculty of Political Sciences and International Relations of Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica has earned recognition for the preparation of such an important conference, whose organization is de facto a recognition of the workplace as important for the discipline of political science. Interestingly, it was during this year that the election of the new president Mr. Hacek, vice president Mrs. Koller and secretary Mr. Just of the association took place, from which the new faces successfully emerged at the forefront of this association, important for consultations in the framework of political, social, international relations and security. The Faculty of Political Sciences and International Relations of Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica proved that the size is not important, but the ability to successfully promote and become aware of both the public and the professional community, through the organization of such important events.
